It was such a joy to create this backpacking illustration for Trails Magazine, accompanying a touching essay by writer Graham Averill. The story follows a parent introducing their teenagers to backpacking, hoping the experience sparks the same love for adventure that has shaped their own life.

For this piece, I was inspired by the warmth and sincerity of the essay to incorporate richer textures, gentle light play, and more expressive linework. It was a rewarding opportunity to stretch creatively while honoring the warmth and sincerity of the essay.
